An interview with EBSQ artist Kevin King
An interview with EBSQ artist Kevin King

How long have you been creating?
In Dog Years it would be about 193 years now of creating. And, were I a cat, I would be 7 years old and would have been creating the entire time, except during the napping parts. But age, or years, is not what is really important. What are important is a healthy diet, exercise and not too many treats.

What’s your media of choice?
Being particularly lazy and fond of naps, I am indebted to pen and ink; simple, quick, and easy. Uncapping the pen I am off to the Land of Imagination, which is a lot like a Bark Park, but far less a chance of picking up ringworm.

What, besides your art, brings you creative fulfillment?
I think I’ve mentioned the naps.

What are your motivations for creating?
The desire to create, the motivation to create is all instinct. It is like the call of the wild, a base primal desire, the kind of drive that propels you to chase and “get” the vacuum cleaner.
The Gypsy Girl and Grandmother Toad
Description: An extraordinarily length of time passed since this illustration was first doodled. Which has been a good thing in the end- it allowed for the birth of a short story.

How a scribble becomes more than a scribble
The other day I took the opportunity to actually stylishly handwrite a witty thank you letter to an editor-in-chief of a magazine. I had a bit of blank space on the bottom parchment and that bothered me. It needed some doodle or scribble.
That of course meant I needed to pause and reflect and to idly scribble- which is really an excuse to have a cigar.
Of course! It hit me! What I wanted to create was a young woman with some ethnic gypsy features. (The Devil is in the details).
And there it was...

A new watercolor

I have finished this watercolor last night of a pen & ink illustration. The illustration is for a writing project that is in progress. Manager/spouse does not like when I post images that are for publication. Nor am I to speak of the writing projects either.
I never fall into the vices of the mumbo-jumbo logic and this so-called common sense that Manager/spouse continues to throw at me. I am way above that, like in the clouds. But, I'm not here to talk about Manager/spouse or murder or even how I just now ate a whole can of Creme de Pirouline chocolate hazelnut wafers that was hid from me. I am here to talk about my art.
here it is
